Anti-Tourism NYC summary of Brooklyn:
There are usually two things associated with Brooklyn (also known simply as "BK" or "Bklyn"): either it's a "dangerous place with ghettos where you can get killed", or "it's one of the coolest places in all of New York City." The funny thing is that the two are slightly true.
Brooklyn has it notority, but this is just a big old stereotype; any area given has bad neighborhoods. On the other hand, Brooklyn can be considered one of the "coolest" places to visit because of the high diverse culture it possesses. However, unlike Manhattan who is also very cultural, Brooklyn doesn't feel as much of a "product" as Manhattan because it's not as high of a tourist spot. Hence Brooklyn has a very homely vibe which has a lot to offer anyone who is looking to explore the "infamous" lifestyle which Brooklyn is said to have. Sadly, because of Brooklyn's growing popularity as a borough, it's going through a lot of gentrification, which is slowly changing the culture Brooklyn once had and turning into Manhattan Jr.
Overall, it's the second largest borough of all the 5 boroughs, and has the highest population of people living in it! There is a reason that this is true, and it might have to do with Brooklyn truly feeling like it's own city aside from the rest of the boroughs. As mentioned, Brooklyn does have it all, from suburban type environments, to nature parks, to the ghettos, and municipal life that Manhattan possesses. Brooklyn is arguably the most distinct borough in all of NYC that is revered as the greatest and the worst which the city has to offer. Surviving Brooklyn means you can outlive anywhere else in the city. |
